NAN Funding Process

The First Step

Consider whether Angel investing is right for you. Are you prepared? Do you have a business plan? If so, submit your application through GUST, a web portal used for the intake of applications for Angel investors all over North America. When you apply, the application will be instantly received by our Operations Manager who will then pre-screen the opportunity.

Company and Application Review

We have knowledgeable and experienced investors that will assess the applications. They will look at the investment readiness of the company and whether the sector is a good fit for our members. In addition, NAN places a high value on the screening process and recommendations from other registered Angel groups. Companies, therefore, may be selected on a positive referral alone.

Your Company Has Been Selected to Present

Companies that pass the Selection process get scheduled to present to NAN’s members.  NAN holds its Investment Meetings 6-7 times per year, from September to June.  Typically, three companies pitch at each meeting.  Each company is given 15 minutes to present and 5 minutes to answer questions.  Then you leave the room so the members can consider, in private, the investment opportunity you provide.

Due Diligence Phase

You have a number of investors who are interested in your company. Together as a group and perhaps in consultation with other Angel groups, they will now form a due diligence team or committee. During this process, you can expect your company and business proposition to be examined fully and completely.  The investors will look to verify the information that you provide and examine financials, the business plan, intellectual property etc.

Term Sheet negotiation

After successful completion of the due diligence process (and sometimes during), interested  NAN members will present a Term Sheet that defines the structure of the investment deal – including type of equity and board of directors representation, using industry standard terms and provisions.

Funding & Beyond

When all parties are satisfied with the terms and language contained in the Term Sheet, the deal can be executed. Closing the deal is only the beginning of the angel funding process. Now you have access to a network of value-added contacts and experienced professionals who can provide essential guidance for the growth and success of your venture. They want you to succeed and can provide you invaluable guidance and mentoring to support the success of your company. Utilizing these assets will assist you in getting the most value possible from your relationship with our members.
